		<description>Ersilia
 Trading Cities 4

In Ersilia, to establish the relationships that sustain the city's life, the inhabitants stretch strings from the corners of the houses, white or black or gray or black-and-white according to whether they mark a relationdhip of blood, of trade, authority, agency. When the strings become so numerous that you can no longer pass among them, the inhabitants leave: the houses are dismantled; only the strings and their supports remain.

From a mountainside, camping with their household goods, Ersilia's refugees look at the labyrinth of taut strings and poles that rise in the plain. That is the city of Ersilia still, and they are nothing.

They rebuild Ersilia elsewhere. They weave a similar pattern of strings which they would like to be more complex and at the same time more regular than the other. Then they abandon it and take themselves and their houses still farther away.

Thus, when traveling in the territory of Ersilia, you come upon the ruins of abandoned cities, without the walls which do not last, without the bones of the dead which the wind rolls away: spiderwebs of intricate relationships seeking a form.

The Café Grind recently became a full service bar, with liquor license and all. We helped them promote their recent evolution with a series of postcards, and a new menu.

		<description>Mynoni &#38; Friends_Concert Flyers

Mynoni &#38; Friends is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Nicky Majnoni.

Born in Rome, Nicky spent his teenage years in Washington DC before returning to the Eternal City to qualify as a lawyer. Beckoned by the musical potential of New York, he enrolled at Columbia University and started playing guitar and mandolin in the Brooklyn-based band Sleep City. The urge to pursue his own music career lured Nicky back to DC to concentrate on his solo material. After a promising 5-day recording session in West Virginia (and thereafter much encouragement from a few dedicated peers) he gathered some friends and recorded Throwing Shapes at Washington’s legendary Bias Studios in late 2011.

His signature slide guitar technique has been influenced and inspired by blues players throughout the generations, from Bukka White to Derek Trucks; Nicky’s unorthodox guitar tunings also help give Throwing Shapes its magical, timeless sound.

I've been working on some promotional material for the band.

		<description>Reconsidering PostModernism

Four hundred designers, architects, scholars, and passionate cognoscenti gathered on November 11th and 12th, 2011 for an international conference called Reconsidering Postmodernism. It was sponsored by the Institute of Classical Architecture &#38; Art coincident with the 30th publication anniversary of one of the movement’s iconoclastic landmarks, From Bauhaus to Our House by Tom Wolfe. Together they investigated a historical design movement that still stirs strong views pro and con as also evidenced in London, where the V&#38;A exhibited Postmodernism as part of its fabled 20th century design series. Anglo–American architect and theorist, Charles Jencks, was an honored guest as the author who in 1975 first invented the term. In an essay called The Rise of Postmodern Architecture, he explained the brand new moniker thusly, “ This title is evasive. If I knew what to call it, I wouldn’t use the negative pre-fix ‘post’. It is rather like defining women as ‘non-men’…” And so it started to transform global culture.

As Dean Robert A.M. Stern summarized, “We are all postmodernists today. And to paraphrase Philip Johnson, we cannot not know history.”
